Cape Chamonix, Franschhoek

Since joining Cape Chamonix in 2001, winemaker Gottfried Mocke has transformed this 50ha estate’s wines, following the principal that great wines begin at the vine. With some of the highest altitude vineyards in the Franschhoek Valley planted predominantly on greywacke soils, Goffried favours low yields, traditional viticultural practices and wild ferments to produce these pure and unique expressions of the terroir, which are some of the very best examples from the region.

Review

“The spiced honey and vanilla notes make for a promising start which then adapts into lemon biscuits and ice cream. This fleshy palate is backed up by tangy acidity and the finish is pleasantly tart.” Highly Recommended Decanter.com

Chardonnay
Vintage: 2015
Country: South Africa
Region: Franschhoek
Colour: White
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Size: 75cl

Highly recommended by Decanter in their April 2017 issue as one of the top South African Chardonnays, Cape Chamonix Chardonnay 2015 is rich and fruity with an abundance of white peaches, apricots, mangoes and grapefruits, with underlying notes of toasted oats, cream, caramel and nutmeg. Medium-bodied with a long, fruity finish, this is a great expression of the grape and terroir.

Review

“The 2012 Pinot Noir Reserve has a pure, well-defined bouquet with blackberry and cranberry, touches of briery and wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, supple opening. There is good fruit concentration here with layers of red currant and cranberry fruit, a slight viscous feel in the mouth and a dash of white pepper enlivening the finish. This is a well-crafted Pinot. Drink now-2016.” Neal Martin, Wine Advocate eRobertParker.com
